Fascination Comics

at the Comic Centre

The future beckons, as the comics industry reinvents itself.
Comics are, by their very nature, crossmedial products. For comics, the jump into other media seems inevitable: comics become films, films become games and the games turn up again as apps. For many years comics have been among the most crossmedial products in the book and media industry.

Thanks to digitisation, the already fertile relationship between picture stories and other media is experiencing an enormous boom. In each case, the decisive factor is not the respective medium that undertakes to repackage the content; rather it is the story itself that ensures the success of a product. Content is king.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is responding to these developments with its digital initiative Frankfurt SPARKS (www.frankfurtsparks.com). Frankfurt SPARKS keeps the spotlight consistently on the content, and develops business models that transcend the industry boundaries. Connect to content.

German Cosplay Championship - DCM

Cosplayer Auf Der Agora 2010

The Germany Cosplay Championship - Deutsche Cosplaymeisterschaft (DCM) - is organised by Animexx e.V., Germany’s biggest manga and anime community, and the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The Cosplayers dress up in their own designs of fantasy outfits based on their models in Japanese comics, films and roleplay games. For the championship they show their costumes during brief onstage performances.

For the DCM, its new season starts on 10 April 2011. Nine preliminary rounds will be held all over the country to find the best cosplayers to qualify for the finals on 16 October at the Frankfurt Book Fair where they can become “German Cosplay Champion 2011”.

Comics Collective Stand

Comic Zentrum

What’s new in the Comics Centre in 2011? The Comics Shelf has developed into the Comics Collective Stand. This will enable even the smaller publishers without their own stands to exhibit their products for the full duration of the fair. The stand will be supported by expert staff from the Frankfurt Book Fair and is furnished with tables and chairs. Exhibitors using the collective stand can conduct their important discussions here. One more advantage: Participants can arrange their appointments flexibly across all the days of the Book Fair as they don’t have to be present at the stand all the time. For instance, smaller publishers would be able to visit the Book Fair for just two days, in which time they can conduct their business while their comics are presented at the collective stand for the whole duration. The Hot Spot Kids & Comics

Der Hot Spot Kids & Comics am Comic-Zentrum

New in 2011: Hot Spot Kids & Comics at the Comics Centre
The Hot Spot Kids & Comics is located in Hall 3.0, where it provides space for exhibitors of children’s books and publishers of comics who are digitally-focused to present their digital products. The Hot Spot also offers exhibitors a stage for holding events, as well as a lounge for business talks.

To lend physical emphasis to the relationship between comics, film and games, and the new digital forms of content use, this year the Comics Centre is in a new location, directly next to the Hot Spot Kids & Comics. The collective events stage serves as a bridge between the tried-and-tested and all things new.
