The innovative field of library and information sciences are a major focus of attention at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The book and media industry is currently undergoing enormous change due to digitisation and new information technology. This is especially true of the library and information sectors. The Frankfurt Book Fair offers the perfect platform to delve into these developments. Here you can talk with the experts, meet publishers and get to know new business partners.

Different locations at the Fair have been set up for exchanging ideas and hosting seminars, often in cooperation with notable partners. On this page, you will find an overview of the offers and services that could be of particular interest to librarians.

The Book Fair for students and apprentices

Fachbesucher 2009

At the LIS Corner (LIS = Library and Information Sciences) students can learn more about library and information sciences. The meeting point in Hall 4.2 invites everyone to come and swap ideas on job prospects and talk about their first experiences in the working world.

Apprentices can meet and talk at “FaMI” (German abbreviation for “Professionals in Media and Information Services”).

The Frankfurt Book Fair offers media and information service professionals and students of library and information sciences the possibility to receive free tickets for the Fair. If you’re interested, please contact our service centre. To receive free tickets, you will need to present an ID.

Reduced ticket prices for librarians

Even at the door, librarians can take advantage of the lower advance sale ticket price. A 25% discount applies for the day pass as well as for the ticket for the duration of the Fair. Librarians will be required to present proof of their employment to receive the reduction.

ILC: International Library Centre

Ilc

Meeting point for librarians and information specialists The ILC is the central meeting point at the Fair for information specialists and librarians. Every year, agencies and library service providers rent a fixed stand at this work centre. The Business Lounge – an exclusive and closed workplace for publishers and service providers – will be incorporated with the more open work areas in the ILC. But a more informal kind of exchange will continue to be possible, as well. Of course, the cafeteria this year will continue to offer delicious snacks.
In cooperation with the Frankfurt University Library, there will be an information counter where we will be happy to advise you on planning your time at the Fair.
