Illustration – a bright side to the Frankfurt Book Fair! International meeting-point for illustrators
If in the past illustrators have seen the Book Fair as primarily of particular interest for canvassing editors, colleagues now enjoy a strong sense of community.
The illustrators who meet up at the Frankfurt Book Fair are not just from all over Germany, but from other European countries as well. Illustration is a firm feature of the professional programme and far beyond.
The stand of the Illustratoren Organisation and the Filu Illustrators Café in Hall 4.1 are the “home ports” where people can meet and talk.
Filu is unique worldwide as an archive collection for illustrators and photographers. This is where trade visitors and exhibitors can look through the works of more than 500 illustrators and photographers – a treasure trove for all those in search of new creative talent for their upcoming projects. Illustrators and photographers can introduce themselves with up to 48 pieces of work – including their contact data:
As the association for professional illustrators, the Illustratoren Organisation advises on general conditions of work for its own sector, contributes to the exchange of experience on a national level, to the setting up of networks and to the care of the up-and-coming younger generation. The IO is also a competent contact for advice on contractual and copyright issues:
“A Picture of My Picture World”
The exhibition turned visitors into an accomplice and casted a spell with the magic of the picture.
“Le Grill” is a newly established organisation from Alsace. With the abundance of narrative forms and original graphic techniques in its exhibition, it made aware of the unique picture worlds and personalities of illustrators. Contemplators wondered more than once: “How do they do that?”
