"A land full of voices"

Brazil is a land full of voices, with a culture that is constantly reinventing itself.
As Guest of Honour of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2013, Brazil will present the wealth, diversity and vibrancy of its cultural creativity. These are all characteristics that are similarly reflected in the country’s literature – a literature which is set to become accessible to more and more readers around the world. On 14 March 2013, in a press conference at the Leipzig Book Fair, the Guest of Honour gave us a first taste of its literature programme, and also revealed the names of the 70 authors who will be visiting Frankfurt in October.

Reading Brazil...

.... and it started at the Leipzig Book Fair in March. At the Leipzig Book Fair (14 to 17 March 2013) our Guest of Honour, Brazil, was with us at the stand. They brought with them nine Brazilian authors, a book exhibition and a varied stage programme.

Brazil presented a literary foretaste to its Guest of Honour appearance, including readings at the fair and in the city, and was accompanied by a large number of new publications in German.

Video presentation

This film is based on the Brazilian text on the Guest Scroll, which New Zealand handed over to the next Guest of Honour, Brazil, at a ceremony on 14 October 2012. The Guest Scroll is an artwork specially created for the Frankfurt Book Fair, which grows with each passing year. Adorned with literary quotations chosen to represent the literature of the next Guest of Honour of the Book Fair, this is traditionally passed on from one Guest of Honour to the next on the final day of the Fair.
