A training programme for teachers and educators with around 230 educationalists in attendance.
On the Friday and Saturday of the Book Fair, the conference rooms of Hall 4.2 were a hive activity. With around 230 educationalists in attendance, this year’s education conference offered presentations, workshops and panel discussions on the theme of learning and movement.
Friday was the day for nursery schools. Organised in cooperation with Didacta and the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs, this began with an inspiring presentation by Professor Renate Zimmer. Under the heading “Romping makes you clever?!”, a number of workshops showed how movement can be integrated into the daily routine of nurseries and day-care centres, how it can help to promote language learning, and what benefits can be gained from “learning outdoors with all one’s senses”.
Isabell Gora, a nursery teacher from Frankfurt, and Professors Wolfgang Beudels, Wassilios E. Fthenakis and Renate Zimmer all took part in a discussion of the topic, “What’s new in teacher training and degree-level courses for early years education?” Hesse’s Minister of Social Affairs, Stefan Grüttner, gave the speech of welcome.
The Marketplace is a specifically targeted exhibition area for your products for the education sector.
The Frankfurt Book Fair holds the education conference "Learning moves!" Alongside its programme of events, a key element of the education conference is the Marketplace. In the foyer of Hall 4.2, publishing companies, institutions and service providers to the education sector are given the opportunity to present their products to their target public. This is also the venue for 15-minute presentations which will be publicised in the conference programme.
Target group for the education conference:
On the Saturday of the Fair, the training programme turned its attention to school teachers. Here, the cooperation partners were the website, lehrer-online, and the Hessian Ministry of Education and the Arts. For the opening discussion event, which was chaired by Petra Thorbrietz, of Focus-Schule, the panellists were Silja Gülicher, of Nintendo, and the Professors Grönemeyer, Laging and Prohl. Their talk looked at ways of integrating movement in the every-day activities of a school, as well as the distinction between movement and sport, the relevance of health issues, and how computer games can encourage movement in children (e.g. using the Wii games console). The panel was welcomed by Jörg Meyer-Scholten, head of Division I of the Hessian Ministry of Education and the Arts. There then followed eight workshops before Gregor Staub closed the day with his entertaining presentation “Memory in movement – mega memory®”.
In the lobby of the conference rooms, participants had plenty of opportunity to inform themselves about institutions and new publications in their field.
We would like to thank our sponsors Nintendo and itslearning for their support.
In due course, we’ll provide more information about the training programme for teachers and educators at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2012. Please watch this space.
