The Frankfurt Book Fair Literacy Campaign - LitCam for short - is the Frankfurt Book Fair’s year-round international education project. It was launched in 2006.
The key philosophy behind LitCam is "Competence for Life". The aim is to facilitate basic skills such as reading, writing, arithmetic and the use of digital media, in order to give people all over the world the chance to face the challenges in their lives with competence. Since April 2010, LitCam has been a not-for-profit organisation.

LitCam Conference
Since 2006, the LitCam conference has been held once a year in the immediate run-up to the Frankfurt Book Fair. Every year, it takes up a focus topic which looks into the overriding issue of education in relation to some other aspect. In 2011, the spotlight was on "Literacy and Sustainable Economic Growth". The event brought together education experts from all over the world to investigate the correlations and discuss approaches for solutions. In addition, selected international campaigns introduced their education projects.

Reading And Learning Rooms

On 29 July 2010, the first three Reading and Learning Rooms were opened in the townships Kayelitsha and Mfuleni in Cape Town, South Africa.
The rooms are provided with books and other educational resources and are open to residents from the immediate neighbourhood. Workshops, lessons and book readings with authors are regular features. Since last year, some more RaL Rooms have been created in the two townships. The aim is to provide residents in this way with an opportunity for meaningful activity, helping to reduce the levels of violence resulting from boredom.
